[Video] About a Girl, A Fever, and a F*cking Doctor's Note

Hi Friends,

Don't be alarmed. My tiny human is fine.

The following video is an old story from November of last year, that began the start of a journey of fevers, coughs, and lots mommy and me time at home. There was something funky going around and both of my little ones took turns being absent from school with varying degrees of viral infections.

I'd send them back to school healthy, they're fine for a while and then boom, sick as hell again.

Earlier this month, she fell ill again with a high fever and coughing for the third time this school year that kept her home for about a week. It was a rough week. From experience, I already knew what the problem was. However, because she had a fever, I needed to take her to her pediatrician for a diagnosis and a note to excuse her from school. The doctor said it was a viral infection...again (see Instagram post) and basically, there was nothing we could do other than ride it out. The doctor can't give medication for a viral infection as there's nothing that would fight it, unless it was instead a bacterial infection. In that case, she'd receive antibiotics.

So we're back at the pediatrician's again... Let's see.

Well damn it, why isn't there a potion of some sort for viral infections?

At the end of the day (and this really pisses me off), I had to pay a co-pay to hear "there's nothing we can do except ride it out." I don't mind paying it, I mind having to take her to the doctor to appease a school system which requires a doctor's note for a sick day. I remember a time when a note from the guardian parent would suffice as an excused absence. This isn't the case now because of the old saying "a rotten fucking apple spoiled the whole damned bunch." Parents were writing notes for kids who weren't sick, kids were forging notes to cut school, and blah blah blah. Now we have to pay for it. LITERALLY.  It sucks. Worse over, parents are sending sick kids to school because not everybody can pay for doctor co-pays every time their child get's a fever or a cold.

I wish there were a better way.
